Fingerprint Sampling for Image Processing Study

A Final Year Project by TARUMT FOCS students.

Participant Information & Consent

You are invited to voluntarily take part in this research study. Please read the information below before participating.

Purpose

This study collects mobile-captured fingerprint images to support research on fingerprint quality assessment, enhancement, image processing and deep learning techniques for our Final Year Project.

Procedure

You will photograph your own fingertips using your phone's camera and upload them through this form. The whole process takes about 5-10 minutes.

Risk

There are no physical risks involved. You will only be providing several fingerprint images - there are no harmful procedures, and you may skip any step or withdraw at any time.

Confidentiality & Data Storage

  • No conventional personal information (name, student ID, email, phone number, or photographs of you) is collected at any point in this form — only fingerprint images.
  • Each participant is identified solely by a randomly assigned study code (e.g. P7f3a2); no key linking this code to your identity is created or retained.
  • Fingerprint images are treated as sensitive biometric data and are stored in access-controlled storage accessible only to the researchers and the project supervisor.
  • No personal identity will be attached to your data in the final research report.
  • Data will be retained for no more than one year after project completion and permanently deleted thereafter.
  • The data is used solely for academic and research purposes in this FYP project, and is not shared with any third party.

Voluntary Participation

Your participation is completely voluntary. You may withdraw at any time with no penalty, and you may request the deletion of your data.

Capture sequence & angles

Go through all 10 fingers in order, and take 3 angles for each. Left hand first (thumb→pinky), then right hand (thumb→pinky).

Turn the fingertip left, center, then right
LEFTMIDRIGHT

Fill the frame — keep the whole fingertip inside the grid, at each angle:

LEFT
MID
RIGHT
Whole fingertip in the frame Sharp, clear ridge lines Well-lit, no strong glare or shadow

Camera settings

Use your phone's rear (native) camera. The sharper the fingerprint, the better.

Zoom x2 or more Grid ON 3:4 or 9:16 Flash if clearer Plain Background

Tapping a slot opens your camera to shoot that exact finger & angle, then saves it right there — so photos never get mixed up.
